T.H. Rogers Tournament - December 10th, 2011

T.H. Rogers 2011 Chess Tournament, hosted by the Houston Chess Association, was held on Saturday, December 10th at T.H. Rogers School. This was one of Houston's largest chess tournaments, with 422 students from both public and private schools participating, 90 of which were from T.H. Rogers. This was a record turnout for both the tournament and T.H. Rogers. HISD Board of Trustees members Harvin Moore and Mike Lunceford, Principal Mr. Muzyka, Founder of T.H. Rogers Chess Club Martha Jenkinson and President of Parents for Public Schools Frances Robinson-Hunt were present at our Opening Ceremony. Later in the day, Ronda Skillern-Jones HISD Trustee and Ms. Debbie Crowe HISD School Improvement Officer visited. The Tournament was well received by both parents and students.

In order to run a successful tournament, it takes teamwork. We couldn't thank the following team of people enough for making this tournament a success:
Many thanks to all our parents that volunteered their time on Friday night set-up or for the tournament, the coaches that worked with game analysis throughout the day, our supportive administration, the custodians that were at their best, Mr. Liptrap for organizing the registration and the tournament and the students that gave off their very best, taking FIRST PLACE TEAM FOR BOTH MIDDLE AND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.
A special thanks to the Madabushi Family for sponsoring the Cotton Candy machine and Vijaya Erabelli for coordinating the Tournament.
